Today's technology is far more complex than the simple appointment scheduling and electronic insurance claims of yesterday.  Yet, it is still bundled and sold by the same vendors with the same technological and marketing models.  These vendors have the software you need--that is their business and they do it well.  We strongly believe that you should also purchase your hardware and support from them wherever possible--for ease of support and to avoid "finger-pointing"  Nevertheless, vendors sell the same basic turn-key bundle to all of their customers.  It is designed for their business' growth--not to maximize your IT investment dollars.

YOU should be steering the overall design of YOUR practice's technological backbone.  It should support your short and long term goals.  PMS/EMS software is only part of the total picture.

Interpath Technologies Corporation's primary business practice is consulting to major corporations on all levels of technology and the management of technology--globally.  However, we got our start in Medical Office Automation--and have remained close to the issues of managing the technology on which growing medical practices are increasingly dependent.

A typical Medical Practice IT consultation project includes the following:

  • Assess your current level of technology.
  • Compare your IT environment to tools and techniques used by more main stream businesses.
  • Compare vendor proposals for technical validity and maximized gain for your IT investment dollars.
  • Recommend changes that allow you to have a more comprehensive and reliable IT structure--"best practices."

There are 9,970,000 hits on Google for "Medical Practice Management Software."     Who is watching out for you?

We are familiar with the technologies that support such popular products as:

  • STI Computer Services (PerfectCare & Chartmaker)
  • NextGen
  • Execuflow
  • Mysis Tiger
  • ADS
  • ChartLogic
  • Hospital Connectivity Issues
  • Many more...

EMR (Electronic Medical Records) has changed the nature of your Information Infrastructure.

  • Increased complexity

  • Increased legal exposure--now associated with your IT environment

  • Increased need for stability and reliability

  • Multi-office connectivity

  • Increased need for interoperability

  • Increased support costs

  • Increased need for long term vision

Here are the simple facts:

The medical practice wants to spend the least possible--and also wants to purchase the right thing.  The software vendor wants to make a sale--that they can support--in the most profitable manner.  The medical practice does not really understand networking technology--especially once it includes EMR--which is far more technically complex than simple practice management.  Therefore, you pick two or three vendors that you think meet your software needs, have good references (they all have some) and then...pick the lowest price.  Software (system) vendors realize this and respond accordingly--you end up with a bundled package that is "minimized."

Due to the nature of hardware pricing, software pricing and support--the more hardware (technology) in a sale--the higher the selling price--and therefore--the smaller the chance of winning your business.  So, you end up with a bundled package.  If the vendor proposed everything that you really need--they would lose your business to their competitor--who will still claim to be providing everything you need--but for less money.  If the vendor wants the medical practice's business--they have to accommodate that practice's desire to spend the least money--more than they accommodate--the practice's desire to "get the right thing."  This is because the medical practice doesn't really understand the technology and doesn't have the time to try to differentiate between the--conflicting--claims made by vendors.    This  results in a profitable, supportable sale for the vendor and--a usable system for the medical practice--but it is also a lost opportunity for the medical practice.

Interpath Technologies does not provide general Practice Management consultation.  Our focus is on the IT perspective--whether or not you have maximized your technological investment and--most importantly--whether your data is secure, reliable and always available.

Your practice is dependent on technology.  We are here to help guide your IT management decisions.
